The Petrified Muse is the blog of Peter Kruschwitz, Professor of Ancient Cultural History (Antike Kulturgeschichte) at the University of Vienna and Fellow of the Pontifical Academy for Latin (Pontificia Academia Latinitatis).
My main research interests are Roman Cultural History (with an emphasis on poetry and song as manifestations of cultural practice and expression), Roman epigraphy (with a particular focus on Latin verse inscriptions), and the culture of Roman non-elites.
I have published widely on issues of Roman song culture, Latin epigraphy, Roman drama, Latin linguistics, and Roman linguistic discourse.
